About

I love adventure…whether in person travelling the world or vicariously in the pages of a book.  I love laughter…whether in a good comedy movie or the shared hilarity of friendship.  I love analyzing, thinking, pondering, debating…whether about a deep truth from God and its application to life or how to organize a group or event or the background for an academic paper. I love music…classical that takes me to far away places, worship that takes me into the throne room of God, and folk which makes me wanna dance. I love learning…about people, about myself, about random trivia, about complex ideas, about scientific principles…about just about anything.

Background:

  • Born in Oneida, NY…moved to Ontario, Canada when I six (therefore, I am a dual citizen…complete with responsibility to file taxes in both countries…sighh – but it will make going to school in the States easier!)
  • Education:  Emmanuel Bible College (1 yr. general), McMaster Univeristy (Honors Psychology w/minor in Linguistics) – goal is to earn a PhD in Psychology (language and social cognition)
  • Family:  Mom ‘n Pop and a younger brother (whose happily married) – oh and two step-brothers (the four legged variety with whiskers and a tail)

Likes/Dislikes (mostly likes…cuz who wants to dwell on the dislikes)

  • MUSIC:  classical (it tells stories), worship (keeps my focus right), Veggie Tales (makes me chuckle), jazz (makes my toes tap), Israeli (folk dancing…yay!) – not so fond of hard rock (can’t make out the lyrics), or rap (where’s the music part), or seductively romantic contemporary (there are some things I just don’t need to know)
  • BOOKS – Fiction:  historical fiction, sappy christian romance, science fiction, action/suspense
  • BOOKS – Non-Fiction:  deep thinking about truth and faith by C.S. Lewis, Philip Yancey, John Eldredge, David Willard; books about other cultures or biographies of travellers; general science (ie. astronomy, biology, origins, history)…oh and textbooks, I read lots of textbooks (some of which would fall in the likes category and others in the dislikes category)
  • MOVIES:  I like comedies a lot, but they are a risky category nowadays cuz unfortunately the entertainment industry seems to find sex and insulting others funny.  I like drama sometimes…mostly only if its based on a true story or painting a picture of a time period or historical event…otherwise it just makes you sad for no reason.
  • NATURE:  I love being outside…hearing water crash against the shore or bubble over rocks, listening to the wind whisper through the trees. Unfortunately, the outdoors comes with mosquitoes and other pesky creatures…and a very hot sun (but us smart human beings have come up with brilliant inventions to deal with those…like bug spray and hats…okay, due to the environmental/health risk posed by the first, the second is probably the more brilliant of the two)
  • ACTIVITY (Disclaimer here…I don’t DO half the things I enjoy doing due to laziness and lack of time…but I want to):  I like to hike and canoe. I like to ride my bike and feel the wind whip through my hair. I enjoy strolling through antique and thrift markets or craft shows (but I just like to look and feel uncomfortable when someone actually tries to sell me something…I know how awkward it is for them and how difficult it is to make a profit…so I feel guilty about having no intention to buy).  I like to dance…mostly folk and line…someday I want to take ballroom lessons. I like rollercoasters and spinning rides (but not standing in line)…I enjoy the carnival/theme park atmosphere (those places always have a pulsing sense of energy…and they are great places to people watch).
  • FUTURE ADVENTURES:  I want to go camping/canoing in Algonquin (or some such place). I want to fly in a little plane…maybe even try skydiving. I want to go whitewater rafting again. I want to swim in the ocean.
  • TRAVEL: I’ve been to Scotland, Tanzania, and Israel (England and Italy too if you count layovers in airports).  I still want to see Russia, Europe (like France, Germany, Hungary), and more of Africa.  Its funny…I’m not that interested in travelling to South America or Asia…but I don’t know why.
  • HOBBIES:  Well, from the book lists above, its pretty obvious I read a lot. I also like to design things…brochures, websites, scrapbook pages.  Sometimes when I get the urge to be creative in a more hands on way, I get out my woodburning kit.  Someday I would like to invest in an airbrush and compressor.
